Ultimately, our botanical garden (or any botanical garden) isn’t about the inviting gift shop and café, the stirring art exhibits, the special events and programs, or the elegant Visitor Center – as wonderful as they all are. It isn’t even about the bones of the garden — our magnificent stonework and topography. After all, what would our Gardens be without our gardens?

For that reason, and because it’s a passion for many of us here at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, we take horticulture seriously. You’ll find native plants and exotics, rare plants and common varieties, showy plants and their plain cousins. No matter what we grow, however, we endeavor to grow it well. And we do it all for your visual pleasure and to provide educational opportunities, in the sincere hope that you’ll enjoy our gardens in all its aspects and visit again and again — to watch and to learn.
