What’s In Bloom – August 13, 2024

What's In Bloom

Highlights: This week some plants at the peak of their blooms include rose-of-Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus), garden phlox (Phlox paniculata), coneflowers (Rudbeckia spp.), hydrangeas (Hydrangea spp.) and a few late-blooming anemone (Anemone spp.). The Bibby and Harold Alfond Children’s Garden is covered in swaths of gold, light blue and purple as patches of Goldsturm orange coneflower (Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’), small globe thistle (Echinops ritro) and Honeysong Purple Stokes’ aster (Stokesia laevis ‘Honeysong Purple’) go into flower. Despite being small and perhaps easy to miss, the blossoms of the common arrowhead (Sagittaria latifolia) in Slater Forest Pond have a delicate beauty sharp-eyed guests may enjoy.
