Architecture and Botanicals in the Fall Gardens

Explore the unique architectural elements that blend seamlessly with nature in the Gardens. Discover how to capture the beauty of garden structures, from bridges and trellises to the whimsical Children’s Garden play cottage, as you learn techniques to enhance your painting skills. Guided by Maine artist Susan Bartlett Rice, you’ll create your own paintings inspired by the stunning autumn surroundings. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a love for art and nature! This is a three-day workshop suitable for adults and teens 14+.
This class will move between the classroom and outdoors, weather permitting.

Artist Biography:
Susan Bartlett Rice is best known for her colorful paintings of Maine and, more recently, for her large-scale public murals in Damariscotta, Portland, Biddeford, and Portsmouth.
Rice’s education includes a BA in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Vermont with further studies in illustration at The Rhode Island School of Design. She has held positions at The RISD Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her work is shown in both public and private collections and has been featured in ArtNews, Downeast Magazine, and Maine Magazine.
