Artist Bio:
I am the Vice Chief of the Mi’maq Nation and an elder of the community. I reside in Littleton, a small town in Aroostook County. I am the father of five—three girls and two boys. Two of my daughters live in Houlton, and I get to see them often.
I have been making baskets since 1987, when I was 30 years of age. I learned as a child, but at thirteen, I swore that I’d never make another basket. The family made large potato baskets for fifty cents each.
In the mid-80s, while working with my tribe buying and selling baskets, I learned that it was a dying art and tradition. At that time, I said, “I know how to do this,” and started making baskets.
