Garden Design: Dreams to Design (Sold out)
April 9, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
When designing a new garden, it’s tempting to dive right in and start selecting plants – it’s what we plant nerds love best! But when we design, we’re doing so much more than simply creating a space to show off favorite flowers—we’re creating one that also incorporates and considers circulation, function, character, and scale. Join us as we train our brains and sketching hands, learning how to use graphic and conceptual tools to think bigger about the possibilities of place-making. We’ll present tools and methodologies for thinking about design, practice with onsite spaces, and leave time for students to apply newfound skills to their own personal projects. Students will be responsible for their own design materials, supply list available upon registration.
Emma Kelly is a fierce advocate for place-specific garden design. Living and practicing in Maine and focusing on residential landscapes, Emma works closely with clients and craftspeople throughout New England to produce a cohesive design that fulfills the vision and creativity of all involved. With a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design and featured in Maine Home and Design and the Boston Globe, Emma has most recently launched ColLab, a collaborating laboratory of five independent, women-owned landscape architecture practices working on projects throughout the Northeast.
